Default Brampton to be upgraded?

Brampton to be upgraded?

David Zatz
8/13/2015

Mr. Source wrote that the Brampton plant in Ontario, built by AMC and the sole source of all Chrysler, Dodge, and Eagle large cars since 1992, has been approved for a major upgrade. He wrote, “It seems Chrysler already listened and will be able to invest good money to upgrade and make the plant one of the most advanced.”

He said that the upgrade would take place in 2018, which would likely place it in advance of Chrysler’s and Dodge’s first totally new full size cars since the LX series began with the original Dodge Magnum and Chrysler 300/300C. (The Charger and Challenger both came later.)

While Canadian salaries tend to be higher, national health care reduces health insurance costs for both active and retired workers, and other employers have said that Canadian workers tend to be healthier, better educated, and more productive, and generate more cost-saving solutions. In addition, Chrysler’s highest market share, of all the countries in the world, is in Canada, though sales are around 10% of those in the United States.
Mr. Source hinted that there would be an additional model built in the plant; a rear wheel drive crossover based on the large cars is likely. This model could inherit the name Durango, which sources claim will continue past the current model despite the launch of the Wagoneer, or take on the Caravan name in a sportier body.

Given the company’s desire to reduce the number of platforms and architectures, it is likely that these large cars will use the new modular setup that will underpin the new Alfa Romeo lineup. The amount of FCA US input into the creation of this design remains unknown, but the Chrysler and Dodge versions would be engineered specifically for the former Chrysler Corporation brands.
