Default Chrysler US June sales up 20%

Chrysler US June sales up 20%

Posted on July 3rd, 2012 • by David Zatz

Chrysler has reported it’s the best June since 2007 for U.S. sales, as well as the 27th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. For the second quarter as a whole, sales were up 24% over Q2 2011. Each brand posted increases over the prior June, and Fiat broke records for the fifth consecutive month.
Chrysler sold 144,811 units in the US in June 2012, versus 120,394 in June 2011. While sales dropped somewhat from May 2012, they remain higher than in any month in 2010 or 2011.
For the third time in the last 12 months, the Jeep Wrangler set an all-time monthly sales record. Dodge had three record setters: the Dodge Avenger, Dodge Challenger, and Dodge Journey. Chrysler had one, the 200, though the 300 recorded a 179% gain. The Chrysler Town & Country minivan and Jeep Grand Cherokee each logged sales increases of more than 30% while the Ram pickup truck, with its 12% increase, recorded its 26th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains and best June since 2007. (Just 202 Dart sales were recorded for June, due to short supplies). Chrysler finished the month with a 67-days supply of inventory (358,260 units). U.S. industry sales figures for June are projected at an estimated 14.4 million units Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR).
Meanwhile, year to date gains were stunning in some areas. Looking at percentage increases, Fiat led the way with 319%, but then, Fiat 500 was not available until last May. 300 sales roughly tripled, and 200 sales more than doubled for the first half. Avenger sales shot up 73%. The smallest gain was for Patriot, which “only” rose 12% in the first half, versus first-half-of-2011 sales.
In other news, Fiat will buy an additional 3.3% share of Chrysler from the UAW’s retiree health-care trust, boosting its stake to 61.8%.
